Children's Programs
CHILD ASSAULT PREVENTION (C.A.P.) PROJECT

This is a curriculum that is presented in schools K through 6th grade.  The program is aimed at elementary school children to teach them simple strategies to reduce their vulnerability to verbal, physical, and sexual violence.  Additionally, they learn the concept of their right to be SAFE, STRONG, and FREE.  Skills are age-appropriate and taught in the classroom.  Trained professionals first present the program to the teachers and parents,  This is targeted to provide adults the skills to help their child through problem solving.  In the Kindergarten program puppets are used to involve the children in the learning process.  Staff do role plays in all other grades.  C.A.P. encourages children to develop strategies to keep themselves safe and be able to talk to a trusted adult.  The program has been offered since 1983 and has provided services to over 15,000 children in Sutter, Yuba, and Colusa counties.  Results show that children retain the information and feel empowered by C.A.P.

Crisis intervention is available after each program to de-escalate any issues that may present themselves.  Individual counseling is offered to children who need regular 1:1 sessions.

Children Who Grow Up in Violent Homes ARE alone...
  • They feel isolated from their peers and from the parents who are supposed to love, care, nurture, and support them.
  • Children report feeling frightened of what they hear in the other room, or what they witness first hand.
  • Children who grow up in violent homes learn what they live.  Most have repeat violent relationships as adults.
PARENTING CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE.  PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

In violent homes there is a 1500% more likely chance children will be abused themselves than in a non-violent home.
Children become part of the Cycle of Violence.  They know, feel, and live with the tension, battering, and 'honeymoon'.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, & TREATMENT

This program is for children (up to the age of 18) living in a home with abuse or who are the victims of abuse themselves.  Children can be affected by the trauma as much as the adults in the home.  Casa offers this program for children to help them learn how to work through the trauma in a non-threatening setting.  Counseling gives the child an opportunity to express their feelings through such things as play therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and sand tray.  This program is supervised by a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (L.M.F.T.) and all counselors who work in the program have had specialized training to meet the needs of the child.

Individual counseling and parenting classes are offered to non-offending parents.  Advocacy and accompaniment are provided to all clients as needed and/or identified.
